> Tools: What cameras do you use? Where do you stand in the Digital vs Analogue debate?
I use a variety of cameras depending on the shot I want to take or the job in hand. For commercial work I have a Linhoff 679 that I use with a sliding adaptor and a mounted digital back however I also use a digital Hasselblad kit too as the Linhoff can be a little cumbersome and slow to operate for moving objects or remote locations. For my personal work I tend to use my beloved Wista 4×5 field camera. This gives me all the aspects I love about photography: large format quality, camera movements for perspective control and depth of field as well as being small and lightweight so I can go off exploring on my own without a crew of people required. So I guess thats answers the question of film vs digi, although to add I do feel digital is great but so is film so I am still in the camp of each process is a tool in my belt, each one I can use when the time is right. I tend not to shoot lots of frames I just like to compose a shot and take it once or twice so its not like I’m saving loads on film processing!

> Influences: Could you tell us about what influences your work, photographically speaking and influences that could come from other non-photography related areas?
My first influences were photographers like Bill Brandt, Walker Evans, Robert Frank and Julius Shulman and later discovering photographers like Andreas Gursky, Stephen Shore and William Eggleston, as well as Jeff wall, the Beschers, and Candida Hoeffer. I also really like the work of Alexander Rodchenko, Lewis Baltz, Gregory Crewdson, to but a few. Outside of photography I get a lot of inspiration from films. I love dramas often quite dark and powerful, in fact one of my favourite directors is Alejandro González Iñárritu who made one of my all time favourite films Amores perros. Directors like Chris Cunningham and Jonathan Glazer have inspired me as well as films such as Koyaanisqatsi, life out of balance. I also look to art and have recently fallen in Love with the Vorticists and the Constructivist movements while painters like Edward Hopper have always provided viewing pleasure.

> Self-promotion: From your won body of work, which are your favorite photographs?
I have a few favorites but I see them so often my changes all the time. I did a series titled Cinema that I really like, they are quite abstract yet retain a simplicity and graphic composition that I really Love. I am also liking a series that is still in progress which involves large industrial sites. They have a lot of atmosphere and remind me of the great film ‘Metropolis’.

> Location: How does you place of residency affect your work?
Quite a lot actually. I feel the heart of the photographic industry in England is in London so to be a part of it is great. A lot of my work comes from London so to be able to have meetings at short notice and to meet with fellow creatives is fantastic. There is always something new to look at too in London which is always inspiring, although I’m sure I don’t make the most of it but simply walking down the street can give you ideas. Sometimes however the city can be too much and I find I need to escape to the country to open the mind and think more clearly.

> Future: What will we see from you in the future?
I’m working a little more with agencies the States so look out for that. I am also hoping to shoot more portraits and am working on some ideas for a project involving war veterans. I have also had the chance to document some behind the scenes images on several tv commercials which has given me the bug to start shooting moving image as well as stills.

> Speculation: If you had all the resources necessary, what project would you love to do?
Thats tough! I’d probably travel around extending my images of industrial sites but from around the world. Inside and outside of the some of the worlds biggest, most strange, most dirty, most mystical and most high tech factories.

Herramientas: Qué tipo de cámaras usas y en el debate de Digital vs. Análogo, donde te posicionas?
Utilizo una variedad de cámaras dependiendo de la toma que quiero lograr o del trabajo. Para el trabajo comercial tengo una Linhoff 679 con un adaptador y un respaldo digital, sin embargo también utilizo el kit digital de Hasselblad ya que la Linhoff es un poco lenta para hacer fotos de objetos e movimiento o en locaciones lejanas Para mi trabajo personal trato de usar my amada Wista 4×5 (field camera). Esta cámara me da todos los aspectos que amo de la fotografía: calidad de formato grande, control de perspectiva, control de profundidad de campo, pequeña y ligera para explorar el mundo sin un equipo de producción. Creo que eso responde la pregunta sobre Rollo vs Digital, creo que digital es buena pero creo que el proceso del revelado es una herramienta en mi cinturón, puedo usar ambas depende del momento. No disparo muchas tomas, me gusta componer la toma u dispara una o dos veces, ¡no es como que se ahorra en el revelado!

Influencias: Cuáles son tus más grandes influencias, fotográficas o no fotográficas?

Me gustan los dramas, obscuros y poderosos, de hecho uno de mis directores de cine favoritos es Alejandro González Iñárritu, quien dirigió mi película favorita, Amores Perros. Directores como Chris Cunningham y Jonathan Glazer también me inspiran, al igual que películas como Koyaanisqatsi. Veo al arte y me inspira, me encantan los movimientos Vorticistas y Constructivistas y pintores como Edward Hopper.

Auto-halago: Cuáles son tus fotografías (propias) favoritas?
Tengo algunas favoritas pero esto cambia todo el tiempo. Hice una serie que se llama Cinema y me gusta por su simplicidad y composición gráfica que mantiene algo abstracto. Me está gustando una serie que esta aún en progreso de grandes sitios industriales; tienen una atmósfera que me recuerda a la gran película “Metropolis”.

Localidad: Como influye tu lugar de residencia en tu trabajo?
De hecho, mucho. Siento que el corazón de la industria fotográfica en Inglaterra está en Londres, así que es genial se parte de eso. Mucho de mi trabajo viene de Londres, poder ir a juntas que se agendan si tanta planeación para trabajar con gente creativa es fantástico. Siempre hay algo nuevo que ver en Londres, algo que inspira, salir a la calle a caminar hace que las ideas fluyan. Sin embargo, a veces la ciudad puede ser demasiado y uno debe escapar al campo.

Futuro: Qué podremos ver de ti en el futuro?
Estoy trabajando más con agencias de los Estados unidos, así que esperen ver eso. Estoy pensando hacer más retratos, quiero hacer un proyecto con veteranos de guerra. Documente el detrás de cámaras de varios comerciales lo que me generó un interés en hacer imágenes en movimiento además de fijas.

Especulación: Qué trabajo harías si tuvieras todos los recursos necesarios?
¡Eso es difícil! Probablemente viajaría por el mundo para crecer mi serie de imágenes industriales; dentro y fuera de las fábricas mas grandes, extrañas, sucias, míticas y místicas, high-tech del mundo.
